In these words, the Supreme Court recognized prostitution as a profession on Thursday, proclaiming that sex workers are entitled to dignity and equal protection under the law.

Jusice L Nageswara Rao, BR Gavai and AS Bopanna, issued six directives to protect the rights of sex workers, stating: Police must not intervene or file criminal proceedings if it is clear that the sex worker is an adult and participates with consent. It is not necessary to dispute that everyone in this country has the right to live a decent life under Article 21 regardless of profession.

 The Supreme Court has ordered sex workers not to be arrested, fined, or harassed. Attacks on brothels should be illegal, as voluntary sex work is not illegal, only running a brothel is illegal. Court also instructed  police not to  discriminate against sex workers and called for raising awareness of sex workers.

 The three judges also took great care not to reveal the identity of sex workers during different rescue operations in media. It should not be published or broadcast.” This will lead to the disclosure of such identities. “

 The apex court added that such a passed directive would retain areas where legislation from the federal government was pending..

 The British have died for a long time, but the profession of prostitution continues in the country. It is estimated that there are about 800,000 sex workers in India, but the actual number could be as high as 200,000 nationwide.
