A Jury had delivered its verdict in the defamation case between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.

 A jury, unanimously ruled that a 2018 article published by Heard imputing domestic violence against her ex-husband Depp was defamatory. The jury awarded $15 Million as compensatory damages and punitive damages to Depp.  Also, Heard had filed a countersuit against Depp, alleging defamation with respect to certain public statements made by Depp`s lawyer. The Jury partly allowed Heard’s countersuit and held one statement of Depp’s lawyer to be defamatory. She received $ 2 million in damages from Depp. 

 CLAIM MADE BY DEPP AGAINST HEARD

 A statement posted in an online post said, “I spoke against sexual violence-and faced the wrath of our culture. This has to change. Depp proved through more evidence that:

 a) The statement was made by Ms. Heard.

b) Statement regarding Depp.

 c) This statement has defamatory implications for Mr. Depp.

 d) The defamation was designed and intended by Ms. Heard.

 e) Due to the circumstances surrounding the release of the statement, generous implications were conveyed to anyone other than Mr. Depp who saw it.

  f) Mr. Depp proved conclusively that Mr. Heard acted with “actual malice.”

Second claim of Depp against Heard

The second claim of Depp was with respect to the following statement in the 2018 oped written by Heard

  The jury held the statement to be defamatory and answered all gave affirmative answers (a) to (f) as in the first claim.

The third claim of Depp was with respect to the following statement in the 2018 oped written by Heard : “I had the rare vantage point of seeing, in real time, how institutions protect men accused of abuse.”

  The jury held the statement to be defamatory and answered all gave affirmative answers (a) to (f) as in the first and second claims.

  “As against Amber Heard, we the jury, award 10 Million $ as compensatory damages and 5 million $ as punitive damages”, the jury ruled.

Heard’s claims against Depp

According to a statement by Depp’s lawyer Adam Waldman on April 8, 2020, it appeared in the online version of the Daily Mail. Published their “facts” about sexual violence as sword and made it public to Mr Depp. “

  The jury replied that Heard did not prove all the elements of defamation associated with the above statement.

 A third claim related to Mr. Waldman’s statement  in the same article: “We have reached the beginning of the end of Ms. Heard’s abuse fraud against Johnny Depp.”

  The jury did not admit this defamation. “Unlike John C. Depp, we jury will give you $ 2 million in compensatory damages and no punitive damages.”

 Depp loses defamation proceedings in Britain. Depp  lost the defamation proceedings filed against Sun in the United Kingdom in 2020 after a British court ruled that the article describing him as a female beater was “essentially true.” It should be noted that.

 Following the U.S. jury’s verdict, Depp said he was “modest” by the decision.
