STOCKHOLM CONFERENCE, 1972

The Stockholm conference, 1972 conducted under the support of United Nations from 5 June to 16 June in Stockholm, Sweden. It was the first conference at international level on Human Environment and attended by 114 representatives of people.

During the conference the statement that “WORLD HAS JUST ONE ENVIRONMENT” was made which means that every country should put their efforts for saving the environment.

26 principles established during the conference which was the combination of political, legal and scientific ideas.

UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE ON ENVIRONMNET AND DEVELOPMENT, 1992

It’s also called Earth Summit held in Brazil from June 3 to June 12, 1992. During the conference the reckless behaviour of man and its consequences was highlighted and plans were made to manage the ecological balance.

Representatives of 178 nations and 115 government heads attended this conference at Brazil.

It made path for sustainable development and aimed for meeting the needs of present without compromising over needs of future generations.

The Brundtland Report referred as torch in Earth Summit which guides the nations over sustainable development and its features.

This summit forced the people of worldwide nations to look into their behaviour and understand how it affects the environment and resources.

In Earth Summit five documents adopted by countries:

• Rio declaration on Environment and Development.
• Agenda 21.
• Declaration on Principles in Forestry Conservation.
• Biodiversity convention.
• Climate convention.

JOHANNESBURG CONFERENCE OR EARTH SUMMIT PLUS TEN
