On Tuesday three women have taken sworn as the judge of Supreme Court. Currently, the Supreme Court has four sitting women judges this is the highest representation of women in the apex court in history. Justice Fatima Beevi was the first woman judge of the Supreme Court followed by Justice Sujata Manohar, Justice Ruma Pal, Justice Gyan Sudha Misra, Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, Justice R Bhanumathi, Justice Indu Malhotra, Justice Indira Banerjee, Justice Hima kohli, Justice B V Nagarathna, Justice Bela M Trivedi.
Previously three women judges were serving the apex court named as Justice R Banumathi, Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Indu Malhotra.
Presently Justice Hima kohli, Justice B V Nagarathna, Justice Bela M Trivedi are newly appointed judges in the Supreme Court.
JUSTICE HIMA KOHLI
She was the first woman Chief Justice of Telangana High Court and also served as the additional judge of Delhi High Court and later also became permanent in Delhi High Court. She is famous for her firm approach in defending women rights and executive accountability. Justice kohli is the ninth women who is elevated to the Supreme court. She holds her first bench in Supreme court with Justice Chandrachud and Justice M R Shah.
JUSTICE BELA M TRIVEDI
She was the first woman Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court. She also worked as Additional Judge of Rajasthan High court and later transferred back to Gujarat High Court and then from 2003 to 2006 she served as Law Secretary to Gujarat government.
JUSTICE B V NAGARATHNA
She is the daughter of Chief Justice of India ES Venkataramiah, and might become the first Woman Chief Justice of india for the short period of 36 days if the appointment goes seniority wise.
She said that, “WITH ACCESS TO RIGHT OPPORTUNITIES, EACH ONE OF YOU CAN ACHIEVE YOUR DREAMS. THEREFORE, I URGE EACH ONE OF YOU TO SEEK OUT THESE OPPORTUNITIES ARMED WITH FAITH IN YOURSELF AND STRIDE AHEAD TO ACHIEVE ALL THAT YOU WANT TO AND ALSO GIVE BACK TO SOCIETY”.
