Supreme Court imposes Rs 50,000 on litigant for seeking adjournment.

Justice J chelameswar and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul imposed a penalty of Rs 50.000 on a litigant seeking an adjournment of a case. Plea for adjournment was made by the councel of Meenakshi Enterprises Ltd. on the ground of non-availability of the main councel. The court asked councel to pay fine to respondent i.e. Aanand Kumar Jhawar of Rs 50,000.

The respondent Anand has earlier filed a petition in the High court of Madras seeking to register the case against the Meenakshi Enterprises Pvt Ltd. which has illegally disposed him out of its property. The High court then ordered an FIR to be registered against the Meenakshi Enterprises Pvt Ltd. against this illegal conviction.

The Supreme Court said that there exists no reason why the respondent no. 3 who has come all the way from Chennai should suffer from  adjournment. Hence, the bench further adjourned the matter to January 10. 2018, subject to the payment of Rs. 50,000 to the Respondent No. 3 for traveling charges.
