The BCI has issued fresh guidelines on online examination for final year students and promotion of intermediate semester students. The general Council of the Bar council of India in its meeting has issued fresh guidelines in reference to the detailed guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission of India (UGC).

It is a well-known fact that examinations of students have been a concern to colleges and universities in India. Regarding final year students’ online examinations are permitted. Universities are advised to adopt an alternate strategy for the students who are unable to give online exams.

All the students of intermediate semesters will be promoted based on performance of previous year and marks obtained in internal examination of current year. “The universities are directed to conduct end semester examination within a month of reopening of the colleges. They must adhere to Covid-19 protocol and ensure the norms of social distancing are complied with inside the campus. All classrooms and examination halls should be sanitized time to time” said BCI.

It should be noted that after the reopening of the colleges/universities, the college administration will conduct end semester examinations for that particular year from which the concerned student has been promoted. The students shall continue to study in the year to which they have been promoted. The students will have to clear all the papers of the concerned end semester. In case of back papers for that end semester the students are required to clear the same in order to obtain their degrees.

It also emphasized the fact that the health and safety of the students should not be compromised at any cost. The universities can adopt any appropriate method which are adequate to satisfy the requirements of a regular examination like a project report or a research paper for each paper of the final year. The universities can adopt an adequate method which doubles the internal assessment marks of the semester exams already held for such year.

Regarding the students of the final year who have not cleared all the papers of the previous years but are promoted to  final year and are required to give supplementary exams can submit a project report or can appear for online exams for such supplementary papers, said the BCI.

The BCI emphasized that the universities will ensure that the norm of social distancing is followed in the campus and that all the classrooms and examination halls are properly sanitized from time to time. The BCI said that the universities are instructed to maintain highest academic standards while conducting the examinations.
