CJI N V Ramana addressed the function organized by the lady advocates in honor of CJI and Judges of the Supreme Court. The Chief justice of India raised the issue of less number of women representation in the Supreme Court and in the subordinate judiciary.

After highlighting the ideas of Karl Marx he asked the women of the world to get united against their suppression and demand fifty percent reservation in the judiciary as a matter of right, not out of charity.

Citing data of representation he told that we have only 30 percent strength of women in subordinate judiciary, 11 percent strength of women representation in High court and currently 4 women judges in Supreme Court out of 33 judges.

We have 1.7 million lawyers in India but very sadly I have to tell you that we have only 15 percent of women lawyers.

He further raised the concern regarding the unfriendly circumstances for women as 20 percent of the court doesn’t have toilets, the Stereotypical mindset of clients while choosing their lawyer, less developed infrastructure, etc.

On demand of lady advocates, he informed the court that after the holidays of Dushehra the court will be fully reopened.

He wished everyone happy daughter’s day.
