Activist and Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das has approached the Delhi High Court, filing a privacy violation lawsuit against political commentator Abhijit Iyer-Mitra, media outlets The Pamphlet and Law Beat, as well as social media platforms The Jaipur Dialogues and The Sunday Guardian.
Das is seeking over ₹2 crore in damages alongside permanent injunctions to stop the defendants from sharing or circulating his private residential information, requesting immediate removal of all related videos and social media posts. The suit additionally requests takedown directives for X Corp and Google to curb further distribution of the material.
Key Allegations in the Lawsuit
- Trespass and Filming: Das stated that representatives from The Pamphlet entered his shared rental property in Greater Kailash-I without permission, recorded the interior, and uploaded the clip to X on August 5, where it drew more than 2.1 million views before being reshared on August 10.
- Public Disclosure of Details: The petition alleges that Abhijit Iyer-Mitra revealed Das’s address on a Law Beat broadcast by identifying his neighbor and falsely claiming the monthly rent was around ₹7 lakh, followed by several related social media posts.
- Safety and Security Risks: Despite filing a formal police complaint on August 5 and alerting the defendants to safety hazards, the disclosures persisted. Das argued that exposing his location—especially given past threats—heightens the risk of targeted hostility, intimidation, and physical harm toward him, his family, and co-residents.
