President Droupadi Murmu granted approval on Monday to three recently passed bills aimed at revamping outdated criminal laws. The newly enacted laws include the Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. These legislations replace and supersede the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act, all of which were remnants of the colonial era.
