On 11 August 2021, the circular was issued by the registrar of Himachal Pradesh High Court. The court resolved that from now onwards the courts other than the high court are referred to as ‘district judiciary’ and not as the subordinate judiciary. The subordinate judiciary can also be referred to as trial courts.

The nomenclature for the judicial magistrate of 1st class (JM1C) is also changed to the judicial magistrate of first-class (JMFC).

The order was issued by the Himachal Pradesh High Court by observing that, “no judge is subordinate to the other judge, and every judge is supreme in their own jurisdiction except the high court”.
