A Hong Kong Court will deliver a most speculated conclusion on whether to disallow the
distribution and broadcast of the protest song i.e., ‘Glory to Hong Kong’ after the government
told it to ban the song in the interest of national security.

The protest song i.e., ‘Glory to Hong Kong’ was written in the year 2019 during the anti-
government protests. The lyric of this song asks for liberty and democracy.
It was also played mistakenly last year in 2022 during the Asia Rugby Sevens Tournament
Final between Hong Kong and South Korea.

Critics are worried that a ban will further restrict the Hong Kong’s freedom of expression
which is already under a lot of distress under the China’s crackdown on the Hong Kong’s pro-
democracy movement.

Hong Kong is a former colony of British which was handed over to Chinese rule in the year
1997 under the framework of “One nation, two systems” that provides it its own political and
economic system for a time span of 50 years.

However, the freedoms and openness that were enjoyed by the city are now continuously
attacked after the Beijing enacted a national security legislation and other political alterations.
In June 2023, the government asked for an injunction to pick anyone who utilize this protest
song to demand the separation of the city (Hong Kong) from China. It also asked to restrict
actions that utilize this protest song to incite others to participate in secessionist movements.
